Suting Han is an audiovisual composer, currently studying PhD at the Royal Northern College of Music. During her compositional career, she has deeply explore the realtionship between music and visual.

The interesting connection between the listener’s attention and the different elements of Suting's music intriguing each other is a feature that she consciously want to develop. In film scoring, the feature mentioned earilier can not be done by just learning the musical knowledges. Actually applying those knowledges in precision is the way to make connection occur. To demonstrate, if you gradually build the tension in your music, whilst keeping the change discrete, and then suddenly play the leitmotif of the evil character, the sudden awareness will create an aura of fear.

In practice, Suting compositional style is based on a method of spontaneous creation rather than via using a rigorous intellectual mechanism. Clearly, those that compose primarily through their feelings have to be concerned with making sure that their music is not the same each time and that the music is coherently structured.

One of the interesting points for writing film score is composers should write music based on the storyline. Using orchestration techniques, thinking of the quality of the sound on different instruments and music development should be based on the video.
